Getting To Grips With Essential Car Maintenance

When I got my first car twenty years ago, I was clueless when it came to maintaining it and keeping it in a roadworthy condition. As a result, I had to pay for costly repairs that could have been avoided if the car had been looked after better. I learned my lesson and started reading everything I could about basic car maintenance. I started this blog to share what I've learned in the hopes it will save other new drivers making costly mistakes. I blog about a variety of topics, such as troubleshooting uneven tyre wear, the benefits of regular servicing and maintaining your car during the winter months. I hope you find my blog useful.

Transmission Repairs | 4 Warning Signs That Your Manual Transmission Clutch Needs Repair

Reginald Fox

The clutch is one of the key components of your manual transmission car, so you'll naturally want to ensure that it is well maintained for its smooth running. If something goes wrong with any component of the transmission system, then you may need transmission repairs based on the problem. Here are some warning signs that your clutch may need repair instantly or during transmission service.

Burning Smell Emitted From The Clutch

A telltale sign that you need clutch repair is when you get a burning smell coming from your clutch every time every time you engage it. This smells somewhat like burning rubber. This burning rubber smell is caused because of overheating and gradual clutch plate wear over an extended period. This overheating is caused because of excessive clutch engagement, especially when driving in slow moving or heavy traffic constantly. Your damaged clutch will need to be addressed through transmission repairs immediately to prevent it from causing problems for your engine.

Gears Slip Automatically Without Engaging The Clutch

If you realise that your gears slip automatically without engaging your clutch while you drive, then there is something wrong with your clutch. This type of problem occurs when you carry heavy loads in your car and may be caused by excessive clutch wear and tear over time. This can also be caused by an oil leak from the crankshaft to the clutch plate. If your gears slip often, then a transmission repairs specialist will need to diagnose and fix the problem.

Vibrating Sound When You Shift Gears

If you find your car making a vibrating sound while shifting gears, then you probably have a clutch problem. You may also experience a grinding sound when you switch between gears. This problem typically occurs because the connection between the gear and engine box is faulty. It may also be caused because of excessive friction between the clutch and the gearbox. An expert will need to identify and fix this problem.

Clutch Pedal Is Hard To Press Down

If you find that your clutch pedal becomes harder to press and difficult to disengage, then you're probably in need of transmission repairs. This problem is caused because of a hydraulic linkage failure, which results in a loss of pressure. A qualified mechanic will need to fix and address this linkage problem before it becomes impossible to press down your clutch pedal.

If you notice any of these warning signs of clutch problems, then you will need to engage a transmission repairs expert quickly to address and fix them.
